Accelerometers are used for measuring acceleration forces. They are now widely used in a variety of industry and organizations. Accelerometers measure acceleration and detect and measure vibrations. They measure the rapidity of an object in relation to gravity. Today, there are many uses for accelerometers that improve our daily lives.

The accelerometer is capable of detecting the slightest movements, from the smallest vibration to the tilting of a building. Accelerometers are securely placed and affixed on the surface of a particular object to sense the vibrations and give accurate readings.
Accelerometers are used in a number of different devices such as video game controllers, computers, cars, cell phones, and more. There are models that detect orientation, vibration, falling, and celerity. When used in laptop computers, the accelerometer will sense when the device drops and switches to off before it hits the floor thereby minimizing impact and damage. Vehicle manufacturing companies use accelerometers to assess performance of a vehicle’s engine, brake system, or propel train. They measure when a vehicle is slowing down and accelerating rapidly. In addition, these devices are used to sense the amount of vibration in a vehicle.
Accelerometers are also used to sense seismic activity and are used for research and data collection. Research biologists also use the devices for research behavior of animals in the wild. They can measure the celerity in which they travel. They can be used to track animals such as marine animals through vibration. Because many animals such as whales produce vibrations when they communicate, the devices are able to detect their vibrations. Accelerometers give accurate results which is essential in research.
When it comes to the vibration of buildings and machinery, accelerometers are used to measure the vibration of machinery which lets engineers determine safety. As well, for machinery, detecting vibration helps technicians determine what need to be replaced or repaired. When sensing vibration in buildings, engineers are able to identify the weak spots and determine safety and the appropriate repair.
Companies that make shoes can use accelerometers to measure the vibration when walking and running so they can assess the shoes ability to absorb shock-waves. An accelerometer is essentially a motion sensor that is used is many different places and situations to gather accurate data. Accelerometers are essential technology that helps to improve a wide variety of items, from shoes, to building, and for research such as studying earthquakes. The many uses of accelerometers make them an important part of our daily lives.
